ICUWelcome to the Adams Memorial Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Our unit strives daily to live up to the hospital’s motto, “Professionally we serve and personally we care.” We also believe keeping your loved ones close to home is a wise choice for both the patient and the family. Our experienced critical care nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). The nurses have had additional education in cardiac monitoring and caring for critical disease states. Together, the nursing staff and our critical care team provide for the intensive needs for cardiac, respiratory, and acutely ill patients.

Hours and Location

Our Intensive Care Unit is located on the second floor. The ICU is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We appreciate family support during your critical care stay, and encourage them to participate in your care. The care we provide is for critically ill patients. Our staff may request family and visitors to limit the time spent with you during your stay in the ICU. Family members may use our waiting lounge during your rest times and procedures. A member of our critical care team will inform family and visitors of your progress. Visiting hours will be open and flexible, considering the well-being of the patient. Visitation is restricted during changing of shift 6:30am-8:30am, 2:30pm- 3:30pm, and 6:30pm-7:30pm.

Additional Information

The first few hours in ICU you will be monitored closely with many devices and wires. Do not be startled by alarms, some may be due to movement. The nurses are educated to interpret these alarms and will respond appropriately. All patients will have an IV (intravenous line) or saline lock. We will be giving important medication through this IV access. Controlling and monitoring your pain is very important. Please notify your nurse if you have any discomfort. Your minister may also visit to offer spiritual support. For many, spiritual care is just as important as physical care.

We will attempt to teach you and your family as much as possible concerning your condition. Teaching information will be provided and you may ask questions regarding your concerns. Your rights as a patient are given to you on admission. Due to patient confidentiality, it is best for family and friends to receive information directly from the family. We encourage you to express any comments or concerns regarding your care while a patient here at Adams Memorial Hospital. Please contact the Patient Care Manager of the ICU, ext. 2704.
