CATCH YOUR BREATH 8K & 5K WALK/RUN & 1 MILE

Adams Memorial Hospital’s Worthman Fitness Center in conjunction with Decatur-Adams County Parks and Recreation will host the Catch Your Breath Race on Sunday, September 12, 2010.


The race will take place across from Adams Memorial Hospital at the Trail Head of the River Greenway by Evergreen Assisted Living. Registration begins at 1:00pm, and the 8K and 5 K begin at 2pm, while the 1 Mile race will begin at 3pm. The entry fee is $12.00 for early registration and $15 after September 6th. Runners may compete in only one event.


Awards will be given to the overall men and women winners and the top three finishers in each age division.

SUPER KIDS DARE TO BE HEALTHY PROGRAM

Adams Memorial Hospital, Parks and Recreation, Purdue Cooperative Extension of Adams County, and The Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion are Co-sponsoring a Wellness initiative for children ages 8-16 years of age. The
program is called “Super Kids Dare to Be Healthy”, and is an eight week class addressing nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral health.

 

The class is offered on Mondays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 27th-Nov. 18th, 2010 from 3:30-5pm. The program will be offered at the Service Complex in Decatur at 313 Jefferson St, or at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion in Berne at 1201 Emmental Drive.


If you are concerned about your child’s health and wellness, and find yourself having a difficult time pulling your child away from the television, computer, or video games, or find that your child prefers fast food over a healthier choice from your kitchen, or notice that your child is concerned about his/her weight or body image, this class may be the answer for a healthier lifestyle for your child.

Daytime Class

Evening Class
Monday, October 11th from 5:30pm to 9:00pm in the Berne Room at Adams Memorial Hospital.

Classes will focus on several different diabetes topics, including carbohydrate counting and dietary management, foot and skin care, exercise, the emotional aspect of having diabetes, self-monitoring blood glucose meters, how often to check glucose levels, lifestyle hints to help control blood sugar, how specific drug classes prescribed for diabetes work, drug side effects, and drug interactions. There is no out of pocket expense for the diabetes class, AMH accepts what Medicare and insurance pay for the education. Instructors are certified diabetes educators.

 

RADIATION CLINIC OFFERED AT AMH

Radiation Oncology Associates of Ft.Wayne will begin a radiation clinic at the Strickler Cancer Institute on the first Wednesday of every month. Intake visits of new patients and follow-up visits on patients who have completed their series of radiation treatments can be seen at the new clinic, thus decreasing unnecessary travel to Ft. Wayne.

HEALTHY HABITS…DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

Adams Memorial Hospital will be holding a Diabetes Support Group called Healthy Habits. The class will be offered at Adams Memorial Hospital on Monday mornings from 10: 30am to 12pm in the Berne Room on the following dates:

CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION CLASS

Space is limited, sign up now for Childbirth Education Classes at Adams Memorial Hospital. The next class will be held on Saturday, September 11th from 9am to 3pm. The class will be held in Decatur Room #2 at AMH.

 

The AMH Maternity Center offers childbirth classes to help you answer many questions you may have; not only concerning “epidurals” and other options for pain relief, but also how to know when you are in labor, what to bring to the hospital and how your partner can provide support when you are in labor. We also help you know what to expect, and learn how life changes after the baby is born. A tour of our beautiful Maternity Center is also included. The cost is only $20 for those families delivering at AMH.

Caregivers’s Suport Group

Cycling Classes

A new session for cycling classes will start in October. Registration will begin October 1, 2010 in the Worthman Fitness Center.

 

Yoga Classes

Participants must bring a yoga mat to class. Yoga is designed to improve flexibility, balance, muscular endurance, and mind body training. Class times are as follows:

 

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 5:00am-6:00am (Fitness Center)
Saturdays: 6:45am-7:45am (Decatur Room #2)

 

New Yoga Classes will also begin in October.

 

The Silver Sneakers Exercise Program is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30am at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur Room #2. (Free to Silver Sneaker Members)
